Magic City Books
Deploying an imaginative use of light, space, and materials, Lilly Architects rehabilitated a blighted warehouse in the Tulsa Arts District into a mixed-use space. Magic City Books is the anchor tenant of the retail section of the Archer Building. The build-out of this project captures the mission of the independent, non-profit bookstore. Natural light streams into the store, leading past the floor-to-wall book stacks and newsstand to the dark-wooded Algonquin Room full of heavy furniture and cozy furnishings. Bistro tables provide additional seating at the front of the space for patrons of the in-house coffee bar and readers. Book stacks in the center of the space are framed by wrap-around windows allowing for an unobstructed view throughout the store.
