Daigoro: A Renovation Rooted in Context
Daigoro is the result of a comprehensive renovation of an existing restaurant building along the Arkansas River in Tulsa. Lilly Architects was engaged to reimagine both the interior and exterior of the structure, working closely with owners Philip and Danielle Phillips to bring a new level of refinement, clarity, and identity to a site long familiar to the city.
The design enhances the building’s connection to its setting while introducing a bold and immersive environment tailored to the client’s pan-Asian dining concept. Through a focused architectural response, the project transforms a known location into a memorable destination.
Exterior Redesign and Riverfront Connection
The renovation began with a careful assessment of the building’s existing form and position on the riverbank. While its elevated structure offered strong views and visibility, the exterior required a more deliberate presence. We introduced dark wood siding, steel detailing, and upgraded glazing to give the facade a clean, contemporary identity that sits comfortably within the natural landscape.
The riverside patio was fully reinvisioned and extended to emphasize proximity to the water. This outdoor space now serves as an essential part of the guest experience, offering uninterrupted views and a more seamless transition between interior and exterior. The design frames the river as a central element in the overall atmosphere of the restaurant.
Interior Reorganization and Material Language
Inside the building, the floor plan was reorganized to improve circulation and define a clear hierarchy of space. The bar, kitchen, and dining areas were repositioned for more efficient operation and a stronger sense of spatial flow. Seating zones were carefully composed to accommodate a variety of group sizes and dining styles without compromising cohesion.
The material palette emphasizes contrast and warmth, using natural wood, blackened steel, and concrete to establish visual rhythm. Lighting is layered to support both daytime openness and evening intimacy. A custom neon dragon installation traces the ceiling of the main dining area, introducing a dramatic visual anchor that reflects the restaurant’s cultural inspiration and brand identity.
Large windows maintain open sightlines to the river throughout the space, reinforcing the connection between the interior and its surroundings.
A Refined Identity for a Familiar Structure
The Daigoro renovation reflects Lilly Architects’ commitment to thoughtful design grounded in context. Rather than working against the existing building, we worked to reveal its potential through strategic intervention, material clarity, and spatial precision.
The completed project supports the vision of Philip and Danielle Phillips while offering guests an experience that is both immersive and grounded. The architecture plays a supporting role in the larger story of the restaurant, helping shape an environment where design, cuisine, and place come together with intent.
